I started reading books on Capture the Flag techniques for cyber security.  I joined Try Hack Me  to learn more methods used by hackers to access your networks.   It had been recommended by so many people. I already have a great understanding of Linux.  I have 8 servers now in my home lab.   I just spun up a Kali server with the tools needed for this material.   Why do it?  Gen. George S. Patton can explain

“Rommel, You Magnificent Bastard. I Read Your Book!”

Quote from Patton: “Rommel, You Magnificent Bastard. I Read Your Book!” In Patton, my favorite scene is when U.S. General George S. Patton has just spent weeks studying the writing of his German adversary Field Marshall Erwin Rommel and is crushing him in an epic tank battle in Tunisia.

I have spent years working with routers, firewalls, AAA, Least Privilege, etc defending my networks and data center from their attacks.   Now I am learning how they do it and can use it to develop even better methods to stop them.

I am going to store some of my notes from it.

Every day I read about more and more attacks around the world.  I have been learned on Try Hack Me how they do it.   I check my Fortinet 60E for new software and look at the logs to see how many times they show up.  I spend time patching my servers for CVEs.
